Rolzur is proud to launch the first underground burial solution
Soon to be implemented on an international scale - the first fully functional underground cemetery!
Situated in the Holy City of Jerusalem, the first fully operational underground cemetery is operative since November 2019. The project was nominated as finalist of the International Tunneling Association (ITA) awards 2017.
Rolzur’s Unique Solution for Underground Cemeteries
This unique project was completely initiated by Rolzur, which identified an actual need in the field of burial grounds, and so planned, designed and built a suitable modern solution to meet the needs of the future.
After identifying and characterizing the need, following an extensive research in terms of the demands from religious, engineering, administrative and economic aspects related to burial, Rolzur developed a comprehensive solution that enables a user friendly and comfortable answer for the practice of burial and the visitation.
Furthermore, the innovative solution is sustainable and green, and also ceases the destruction of the beautiful natural forest landscape of Jerusalem, by preventing the need of clearing grounds to expand the cemetery on top of the surface.
Working in Cooperation: Design, Planning, Execution, and Delivery
Rolzur is the actual entrepreneur for this unique and pioneering project. We have operated in full cooperation with the largest burial society of Jerusalem, which is responsible for more than 50% of the burial in the Holy City. This in order to find the most suitable religious approaches to enable a respectful burial practice.
The Company also worked with local authorities, contractors, and dedicated professionals in different fields in order to successfully carry out this unique project.
The project is designed to feature 23,000 burials lots, all in underground space.
